A Grid for Healing Generational Trauma

A Grid for Healing Generational Trauma
This healing grid is inspired by my friend “M” who is working with an expert to resolve genetic memories passed on through her family's heritage.  She updates me on her progress, looking back into her own memories while exploring ancestral traumas and how they have contributed to the woman she is.  She writes periodically as she peels back layers with talk therapy, dream interpretation, and rituals such as creating a photo collage, meditating upon it and burning it.

What is genetic memory?  It is the concept that the DNA we are born with contains the suffering, fears, habits and strengths of our ancestors, along with eye color and bone structure.  For example, a person may be born with innate phobias, tendencies toward addictive behaviors, or a “factory installed” calling to be a nurse, scientist, or dancer.

M is an African American woman with fortitude and intelligence.  She is introspective yet candid when the truth needs to be stated.  M also has a congenital condition, and she has achieved professional success and a full, independent life in spite of it.  The closest I have come to her first line of genetic mapping is M’s mother.  M’s parents divorced when she was very young.  Her mother was a single mom who nurtured my friend and helped to guide her on the path to who she is today.  M has shared how other family members grappled with demons, as you can imagine demons that were seeded in slavery, Jim Crow laws, poverty, and racial inequalities.  M has also shared happy times and beloved family times.  What always strikes me in photographs she has shared are wide and beautiful smiles.

This grid is programmed to send Reiki to M’s journeys inward and backward; through the forces that comprise her internal map today.  I especially hope she will find silver linings and smiles, too.  This grid is a prayer that her explorations will bring peace to ease her path forward.  The items I used and their intentions are:

The Crab Looking Inward:  I found this perfect little cast off exoskeleton while beach combing.  It has always been my intent to grid with it.  It feels appropriate here because the crab shed it during its growth process, and M's sun sign is Cancer.

Primary Stones & Crystals:
Smoky Lemurian seed quartz
The small stone atop the Freedom intention is aventurine, a soothing stone that resonates with the heart chakra and promotes well being.  Anchoring the corners are hematite to absorb negative energy and ground the intention.  The crystal points holding the top and bottom of the Intention are smoky Lemurian seed crystals.  Lemurian is a quartz, a conductor of energy.  Smoky quartz is favored for protection when doing spiritual work.

To the very right is a stalactite slice.  It is important to the intention of this grid because a stalactite is formed over many generations, drip by drop, hardened at the core and rough on the outside, yet containing a beautiful sparkling layer amidst the coarseness.  Amethyst stalactite is resonant with hard and soft, earth and water energies.  To the very left is rose quartz, symbolic of kindness and loving energy.
Amethyst Stalactite Slice

The brownish/beige nuggets are petrified wood,  for grounding energy and as an ancestral communication aid.  Think of the rings of a tree as it grows -- their memories of the passage of time.

Other Stones & Crystals:

  • Celestite (light blue - crown chakra, light, connection with spirit realm)
  • Amethyst points (healing and cleansing)
  • Apophyllite - (lower left corner - absorbs negative energy)
  • Ruby in zoisite (healing and growth)
  • Moss agate heart (deep loving energy)
  • Noble shungite chips (antioxidant)
  • Emerald chips (heart protection, positive outcomes, "the healer's stone")
May you achieve all you seek, and more!

  1. Wow that's beautiful! That stalactite slice really is like a window through time.
