Prairie Warbler Sunday, 05/03/2020 at Avery Farm Nature Preserve Blue Trail.  Identified by describing the song on the Connecticut Birds Facebook group.  I heard them in the clearing with tall trees on either side, in between the swamp and the woods, after the farm.  Eight to ten notes going up the scale, it had an electronic sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5GrQYr36Fk https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Prairie_Warbler/sounds Fish Crow Sunday, 05/10/2020 at Barn Island - at the boat launch Alex pointed the fish crow out to me and described the differences between the common American crow and fish crow.  Fish crow has a narrower, pointier beak, is a little smaller and it is usually found near water. In sun you may catch a purple sheen on the feathers; American crow's feathers are pitch black. They have a higher, nasal call, also known for double Ca! A Long Hiatus; Coping with Grief

It's been a long time.  I took a break from gridding, for a time I even took a break from Reiki. Hell, at times it felt like I was taking a break from life. My last blog entry was the Celtic cross grid , in December  of 2019, honoring my sister's life and soul departure.  Lee died a few days before Thanksgiving 2019, the day before my niece's birthday, and of course Christmas followed not long after.  Even though she had been sick and suffering for so long, it was still terribly hard on all of us. Three months after Lee's death, my oldest nephew Mike suddenly passed away without warning.  His wife discovered the tragedy when their alarm clock went off in the morning.  The wounds in our hearts were torn open with fresh grief - and shock over the cruelty of it.  He was only 57 and had the world by the tail - good job, good paycheck, he and his wife planning an early retirement with lots of travel.  He took vacations, he worked hard, but he was sure to live it up, to
